Preschool Halloween Resource - Painted Pumpkins

If you like Fall and Halloween as much as I do with all the
decorations, costumes, and fun for all, I want to share this preschool Halloween resource I found. I think you'll love it just as much.

My preschoolers absolutely love decorating their own pumpkins for fall decorations, for Halloween or Thanksgiving. They control the image--fun, scary, or just unique to them.

Parents had as much fun receiving these as the kids did making them. The best part is that they don't spoil like carved jack-o-lanterns and can be used for display for the season.

The feedback I had last year from all the families suggested I should share this here for everyone.

Preschool Shape Activities - Circle Time and Snack Time

These are a couple of my favorite preschool shape activities that I have used for years. The children love playing the game of "I Spy". It is always fun to see how they see their world and how they interpret the shapes of things in their surroundings. They have a fresh approach and it never fails to surprise me.

Children also love the opportunity to be chefs and to prepare their own snacks. Provide them with the necessary ingredients--all cut in the different shapes that they will learn--and let them create their own snack!


Circle Time-
To begin, have sample shapes of a circle, square and triangle. Show these to your preschoolers; explain the special qualities of each and then make one observation of your own from the classroom of each shape. Next begin playing “I Spy” where you ask them to find a particular shape. One at a time let them secretly pick something that’s a square (or other shape) and let the others try to guess what it is. This serves as an introduction to the concepts of the square, circle and triangle.


Snack Time- Shape House
1- Give each child a piece of bread (square) for the base of the house. Next, give them a slice of cheese cut diagonally to form a triangle for the roof.
2- Next, give the children a piece of lunch meat, and have them roll it up into a tube for the door. Finally, give each child two circular pickles for windows, and have them assemble the pieces to form a cute and edible house.

Providing hands on ways to learn and connecting concepts with everyday life and their environments are my favorite ways of teaching preschoolers.

Preschool Circle Time - Fishing for ???

Hello,

I am amazed at all the wonderful ideas you are all sending to me to share on the blog. This preschool circle time suggestion was sent in and I think you will find it a great resource.

Here is an idea for your preschoolers that is so versatile--it is perfect for circle time and the variations are endless. You can use this to teach colors, letters, numbers, etc. Read below for an excellent easy-to-make, low cost preschool activity that is worth its weight in gold!


Sherrin's idea is--
• photo copy pictures of fish in different coloured paper
• cut
• laminate
• put magnet on the fish
• make rods out of dowling
• tie string on the end
• add magnet to string

Aim of the game each child has a turn of catching the fish.
The teacher asks the child to catch me a red fish and they have to catch a red fish etc..... Or you could put the alphabet on the fish, or numbers etc....

The kids really love this game for circle time!
